Essay 1 Ideas

There are a few angles and details I would like to explain in my Essay 1. I would like to explain some traits my father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather have passed down for generations. For example, they can be self-sufficient in each of their own ways. For example, my father works for himself, so he is using his time wisely. He also needs to make sure he makes enough money to pay for his daily operations. My grandfather is one of the most organized people I know. He has huge peg boards with all his tools and supplies he will ever need hung up easy to see and reach. He does not waste any time looking for anything and does not put anything off. When an issue arises, he will make sure it is taken care of. Whenever I was with my great grandfather, he would always make sure to listen to us. He would ask us questions just to learn about our lives. It was important to him in his later years to make sure he was surrounded by his family. He would also tell us military stories from the world war 2 era and tell us all about his friends.

There are some key points Roman Krznaric said that I found interesting. One thing that I found remarkably interesting is how much the population will grow. There are 7.7 billion people alive today. In total there have been one hundred billion people alive in 50,000 years of human existence. Experts say in the next 50,000 there will be about seven trillion people living. Also, experts say that in the next two centuries there will be tens of billions born. Another interesting point Krznaric said just like the good ancestors before us researched medicine. Medicine has really helped our life expectancy grow. It has grown drastically, increasing over the one hundred to one hundred and twenty years. For example, in the 1900s the life expectancy was 47. As of 1950 the average life expectancy went all the way to 68. As of 2019 it had gotten as high as 79 years old (Harvard Pilgrim). Another important thing our ancestors have done for us is starting building in cities that we live in today. They built the infostructures hundreds and thousands of years ago. Humans alive today now need to do the same for the centuries to come. We have caused the most damage to earth than any other living thing stated by Krznaric. We need to take our eco system into more consideration for our grand kids and their grandkids. If we do not, we will not have an eco-system and human existence will no longer be here. This concludes some key points Roman Krznaric stated about good ancestors.

Writing and Reading

To start off I do not enjoy reading, but I am trying to open my horizons into making it more enjoyable. While I am reading difficult texts I always try and take each sentence and break it down. When I am reading if there is something I do not understand I will look it up on my phone. Occasionally, I will take a note of it and go back to it when I have a chance to. After each paragraph I try and summarize in my head what I have just read. Another thing I try and do is read slower and really analyze each word. When I read fast, I miss a few words or the meaning of what was happening. Another distraction I have when reading is noise. I need a quiet place so I can absorb and process what is happening in the context. Sometimes when I have a lot to read that I need to get done, I break it down into multiple sections. For example, if I need to get 70 pages done in the next week I will try and do about 10 pages per day. I like to break it down if there are more than 100 pages, I will read seven or eight pages several times a day. Another problem I used to have has been jumping to conclusions. I used to skim over what I had to read just so I could get an idea of what was going on. Sometimes I would end up missing some crucial details. Also, when I read something, I completely disagree with, I began to lose interest in the topic. I try and stay away from opinion reading and stick more to reading that explores my imagination or topics that I want to learn. In conclusion, I hope I can recognize my weaknesses and learn from all of them and apply what I learn in school these upcoming years.
